$10m development to reshape Tauranga CBD

The new office complex would be located at the intersection of Willow and Harington streets and would span three stories.

A new $10 million development that will help reshape one of oldest parts of Tauranga city has been revealed.

The new office complex would be located at the intersection of Willow and Harington streets and would span three stories, plus a basement for parking.

Brunel Group construction manager Paul Anning said the building would help reshape that part of Tauranga's CBD.

"It's going to be quite a unique, architecturally designed building," he said.

"We've been look at it for quite a while."

The Brunel Group was heading the design-and-build of the new building for owners JWL Investment Trust.

Demolition work had already begun on site to remove Flaunt bar and The Vault on Harington St. ''There's a fair bit of history on the street,'' Mr Anning said.

The street was named after Colonel Harington, whose name was correctly spelt with one "r" and commanded the 1st Regiment of the Waikato Militia. Willow St was named after a group of willows planted by Thomas Wrigley, but these were eventually cut down in 1982.

The new building was expected to be completed in early 2018 and will be called The Reserve.

Mr Anning said this was an extension of the views over Aspen Reserve, which the new building was expected to offer.

''Aspen House was already taken, so we thought The Reserve was fitting,'' he said. Mr Anning said the build was a ''big job'' and would cost $10m.
